Happy birthday 5065

plane-smile

It slipped through the cracks a little, but the club Tecnam 5065 will have a birthday on 25th May. Or really more of an anniversary. 25th May 2007 was when the club Tecnam arrived in Temora and from those humble beginnings, it has now racked up over 1100 hours, trained many students and added many new members to the Aero Club.

Many thanks must go to Rob Maslin for all the tireless efforts of maintenance, the committee of the club for believing in the possibilities and to Alan Powlay and Jill Bailey for hours in the air, going around and around.

Happy anniversary!

Wright Brothers 1909

This is pretty incredible This is historic! The Wright Brothers in Italy in 1909…

Here is a film clip from the Austrian archives about the Wright Brothers demonstrating their plane in Italy in 1909. What is even more fantastic is there was an on-board camera on the Wright plane and the last part of this film shows it. It’s crystal clear. If you haven’t seen it, you must see this important film. Wilbur Wright is at the controls on both of the flights

More new pilots take to the skies

Congratulations go to our two newest pilots, Sal Anderson and David Yee. Sal is a local, who has really enjoyed taking up the challenge of learning to fly (you go girl!), while David hails from Sydney and has been travelling out for weekend training sessions and enjoying all delights of a friendly country town.

The Temora formation team has been seen practicing in the skies around Temora and recently undertook a trip with 4 aircraft to Grenfell to check out Mark Crutchers strip. Mark was so enthused about the formation idea he undertook some initial formation training along with Quincy Maxwell recently. It was also good to see Merv McCauley and Col Richards fly to Marks strip in Merv’s 182 along with Rob Maslin in his kitfox.

The hangar activity on field continues to increase with Quincy completing the erection of the frame for his hangar and earthworks having commenced for Garath and Robyn Otley’s hangar.

Student numbers continue to increase with several members of families learning together. Welcome to the Kenny brothers, Morgan and Brady from Young, and the Molyneaux brothers, Darcy and Jessie from Canberra. The boys father, Gavin Molyneaux has also been seduced to getting back into the cockpit, having had a break from flying for a number of years.

Another welcome addition to the skies is the Zenith Zodiac XL built by Terry and Peter Franke. The aircraft flew through its test period (pun intended) with no major hiccups and has been seen regularly flying around the district. Well done, Terry and Peter.
