Latest news
We have certainly picked up the pace in February, with our Human Factors course held on 13th February attracting 19 pilots and students. People attended from Nowra, Canberra, Sydney the local area, and even one keen pilot from Werribee in Victoria! Jim Haines of Werribee has been doing some Tecnam conversion training and decided the Human Factors course was too good to miss.
Congratulations also to Geoff Gasior for his passenger endorsement, a Pilot Certificate for Scott Taubman of Young, and a first solo for Gabriele Shardlow of Young. New students include Vet Science student Ayla Hunt from Wagga, Glen and his son Matt Davidson from Canberra, Jason Cockayne of Temora Aviation Museum, Ross Howard from Cootamundra and Rowan Fleming from West Wyalong, while Shane Barker of Gerringong is enjoying some conversion flying in the Tecnam between construction of the new TAFE buildings. Recently enjoying flying the Tecnam as part of a glider conversion was Peter Plunkett of Brisbane, who also did some training with Lindsay Wallace, back for a long overdue visit to Temora recently. Margaret Struthers of Bathurst also recently flew the Tecnam as part of her conversion from a gliding licence.
We also enjoyed hosting the recent TAFE course in aerodynamics at the Aero Club with 6 students taking the opportunity to do some Tecnam flying with Quincy and Jill.
Phew, I’m exhausted just typing all this activity! Safe flying til next time,
Jill
Latest News and next Human Factors course 13th February
Well, Christmas and New Years Eve are well and truly over and we are starting to settle back into our routines.
We are planning another human factors course on Saturday 13th February, with the course running along the same lines as last time. Beginning at 9.00am with a break for lunch and continuing until 3.00pm, the course costs $25 including lunch and will give attendees the required pass in Human Factors for their RA-Aus licences.
New students include Emma Turner, daughter of Junee local and club member Roger Turner, along with Peter Halls of Sydney. Other activities include Paul Westman dusting off his gliding instructor rating to begin the process of converting to an RA-Aus instructor rating, along with Paul spending a weekend up at Bathurst recently to complete his Glider Towing endorsement.
Congratulations also go to Cootamundra local Scott Sharman who recently completed his PPL under Graham White.

The mighty Luscombe arrives

A very exciting day on September 29th, with a huge crowd at the museum to see Justin and Sal Anderson’s Luscombe arrive. Rod Luke and Simon Pike flew to Gympie the previous day to pick it up and enjoyed two of the best days flying in recent weeks to bring her home.
The Oshkosh in the background provided the appropriate welcome, along with a crowd of Aero Club and Museum onlookers. Congratulations Sal and Justin.
Congratulations also to Robyn Otley, who achieved her Pilot Certificate on the 5th October. Husband Garath has been working hard on the new hangar and was heard to be thrilled with the news. “Now I can relax and let Robyn fly me everywhere”, was one comment overheard.
Upcoming events at the Aero Club include another TAFE course and another session of Wheelies with Wings.
The other big news is the awarding of the hosting of RA-Aus Natfly to Temora for 3 years. Held over the Easter weekend, this event promises to firmly cement Temora as the hub of aviation activity and will create a lot of interest.
Safe flying,
Jill

More licences and flying action
I just realised I haven’t added anything since July, just shows how busy it has been.
Congratulations for licences issued include locals Justin Anderson and Nick Mcrae and visiting ARTC railway man Kevin Starr from Bathurst. Sal Anderson also achieved a passenger endorsement and has been busy taking family and friends for flights around the local area.
We have also been kept busy flying with 10 visiting budding aviators during the school holidays who attended the recent TAFE course in aviation. Alan and Jill flew with 10 students in 2 days, with all enjoying the opportunity to convert the theory learnt into practice.
We would also like to welcome new club members and students Geoff Gasior from Coonabarabran, Richard McCarthy from Mimosa, and a special welcome back to flying training to Leah Wells. Leah is also taking on a social role encouraging members to get together on the third Friday of each month for a casual dinner in addition to the regular Friday night social drinks. Scott Taubman has also enthused his sister Amanda, and there is some friendly rivalry between the siblings as to who will attain their licence first.
On Wednesday 5th the club was packed with club members from all over the area to hear a CASA safety seminar. The session from Country Energy provided some extremely interesting information about power lines and assistance in locating and operating in areas with power lines. Teraya Miller from CASA also provided a lecture about VFR into IMC which proved thought provoking.
It was also good to see Lindsay Wallace back in the instructing role over the past weekend, with Lindsay settling in well over in his new job in Goulburn.
Both Sierra’s continue to perform extremely well, with students and instructors enjoying the recent agreeable flying conditions.
Tuesday night pilot nights have been put on hold until the weather warms up. If you have any suggestions about subjects for the future, please let Jill or Alan know.
Safe flying until next time. Jill
